If it were really jet propulsion then it would be unstable and you’d need some clever method of keeping nose aligned with tail – such things are probably beyond pyrosomes. With suction propulsion the nose pulls and everything else just follows along.

I’m amazed the big ones don’t get chewed up by e.g. fish. They can’t all be fooled by bioluminescence.
